How to save as JPG instead of default PNG? SnagIt 2019 on Mac
I had to install SnagIt 2019 again as I purchased a new iMac. I've spent an hour looking how to change the default settings and I cannot find it anywhere. Instead of default PNG format, I want images to be saved as JPG. When I go to File>Save As there are no file formats to choose from at all. In preferences there's also nowhere to set this option.
Even the official "Snagit 2019 Help PDF" on this website doesn't show me how to do this. It says to go into 'presets' but Snagit 2019 doesn't have presets.

Hi Nina!
You should be able to find the ability to save as a JPG in a couple of places:
1. In the Advanced Preferences tab, you can adjust your "Drag and paste format," which will control what format is used when dragging out of your tray, using the Copy All button (or any time you copy to your clipboard), or the File sharing option. It looks like this:
2. You should also be able to adjust the format you save in using File > Save As..., like this:
I hope that helps!

Thanks Carson, that helps with screenshots but it doesn't work when I open a JPG and edit it with comments / resize it.... then I have no option to save it as a JPG again. By default it gets saved as a PNG which results in a much larger file size. Not ideal when you're creating images for use on websites.

Huh, that's very strange behavior. I'm able to use Snagit 2019 to open a jpg, make an edit, then save using either Cmd + S (File > Save) or Cmd + Shift + S (File > Save As...). I'd recommend opening up a support ticket using the button at the lower right of this screen to diagnose this issue further, I hope you can get it fixed!

How do you get the list of file types on the Snagit Save As screen? It does not show on mine (Snagit 2019 for Mac).

Hi,
What operating system are you running? It should be there since, but it's possible a newer OS broke it.

I'm running macOS Monterey Version 12.4 (21F79). When I do a "Save As..." I get the option to pick a folder but nothing else, nothing about the file type to 'save as'.

Unfortunately Snagit 2019 is not supported on macOS 12 https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/219910027-What-Version-of-macOS-Is-Required-for-TechSmith-Products-. Luckily we do have a 50% off upgrade promo at the moment https://www.techsmith.com/snagit-upgrade.html
