Use GPU Encoding With Camtasia Windows

Problem

What is GPU encoding and when should I use this option?

Solution

This option can be used to utilize the graphics processor in your computer when exporting your video.

The GPU that Camtasia attempts to use is the one selected in Edit > Preferences > Advanced.

Camtasia will not use GPU encoding in the following scenarios:

  • GPU encoding will NOT be used if your display adapter is named "Parallels Display Adapter"
  • GPU encoding will NOT be used if your display adapter is named "Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics"
  • GPU encoding will NOT be used if Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Hardware Acceleration is set to "Use software-only mode"

Known Issues

On a hybrid GPU system (with 2 or more GPUs), NVIDIA hardware encoding will fail unless the "main display" is connected to the NVIDIA display adapter. This means if the main display is not NVIDIA, and Camtasia Is configured to use NVIDIA, the GPU encoding will silently fail and fallback to software encoding.
