Cannot Share to OneNote

Problem

When sharing to OneNote from Snagit, one of the following error windows appears:

Solution

Snagit does not support sharing to the “OneNote for Windows 10” version of the OneNote app. To share, set the default version of OneNote on your computer to “OneNote” by following these steps:

Windows 10:

1. In Windows 10, select the Start button in the lower-left corner of the Windows taskbar, and then select Settings.

2. In the Windows Settings window that appears, select Apps, and then select Default apps.

3. At the bottom of the Default apps list, select Choose default apps by protocol.

4. On the left side of the list, under the Name heading, scroll down to the first item beginning with “OneNote.”

5. Next to the item labeled ONENOTE - URL:OneNote protocol, select + Choose a default, and then select OneNote from the popup menu. (Don't choose "OneNote for Windows 10" here, make sure to choose "OneNote")

Windows 11:

1. In Windows 11, select the Start menu (near the center of the Windows taskbar), and then select Settings.

2. In the Windows Settings window, select Apps, and then select Default apps.

3. Scroll through the list of the apps on your device or search for “OneNote” in the Search apps box.

4. Select the OneNote app. On the next screen, you will see the list of all the file types that are handled by this specific OneNote app.

5. Select the file type you want to change the default OneNote for. It will show you a dialog similar to the following.
   
                                                       

6. Select the OneNote app from this list as the default app, then press OK.
