Problem
An error message appears when recording: "Failed to start recording: Temp Folder Uninitialized"
Solution
This error occurs if the temporary folder in Camtasia Recorder does not exist or if your account does not have proper read/write access to the folder.
To review which folder is being used as the temporary folder:
- Open Camtasia Recorder.
- Select Tools > Preferences
- Click on the Files tab.
- Review the current folder under Temporary folder. To switch the folder, click the folder icon and select a folder that has the appropriate permissions.
Ensure that the folder exists, and that your account has read/write access to that folder. Also, make sure the folder is in a local location, and is not in a roaming or network location. If you are unsure, make a new folder in C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Camtasia #### (Where #### is the version number such as 2024) then change the Temporary folder to this new folder and try Camtasia again.
