This article provides a summary of the Camtasia file types used for building videos in Camtasia.
Saving Recordings
After recording, Camtasia automatically saves the file and adds the recording to the Media Bin.
The TREC recording files can only be edited in Camtasia. Use the recording files to build and produce a video in Camtasia.
Tip: Always Save Internally
For the best performance and to protect your data please work on your projects from your local hard drive. Avoid network drives and cloud drives while working on a project including exporting. Use external drives for transferring, backup, and archiving only.
Editing Recordings and Saving Projects
- After saving your recording, Camtasia Editor opens.
- The recording is automatically added to the Media Bin and to the timeline. To save your project, select File > Save Project.
Camtasia saves the project file, TSCPROJ.
File Save Locations
When you add media to the Media Bin, Camtasia references the file location in the project (TSCPROJ). Make sure to save your project as a standalone project to keep the media (recording files, images, video clips, music, etc.) bundled with the project.
Sharing Files with Others
- TSCPROJ project files are cross platform compatible for Camtasia (Windows) 9 or later and Camtasia (Mac) 3 or later.
To learn how to share projects and source files with other Camtasia users within your organization, see the Share Projects article.
