Error 1303: The Installer Has Insufficient Privileges to Access This Directory When Installing Snagit

Problem

When running Snagit's Setup, this message is displayed: Error 1303: The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory.

Solution

This error occurs when Snagit is still running as you attempt to run the installer for Snagit or if the user installing Snagit does not have the correct permissions to install the application. The best workaround is to close Snagit and make sure it is not running.

  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click Task Manager.
    • Windows 7: Select Processes.
    • Windows 8/10: Select Details.
  2. Search and select the following processes in the list:
    • Snagit32.exe or Snagit32
    • SnagitEditor.exe or SnagitEditor
    • SnagPriv.exe or SnagPriv
  3. Right-click the processes and select End Task.
  4. Run the installer again.

If the problem continues, please consider the following options.

  1. Locate the exe file in Start menu > TechSmith > Snagit.
  2. Right-click and select More > Run as administrator.
  • If this is in a managed/supervised environment, confirm with your IT Administrator to have the correct permissions to install software on the computer.
  • Confirm that your username has Full Control permissions to the folder where you are installing Snagit. Also check the permissions on the parent folders of that destination.
  • Some security software can block software from installing. Close out or pause all security software and try installing Snagit again.
  • We have seen an application called MyWinLocker prevent users from making the require permission changes. Uninstalling MyWinLocker may resolve the issue.
