Snagit (Windows): Move Unsaved Captures to a Different Computer

Problem

How do I back up my captures in the Snagit Library or move them to a new computer?

Solution

Back up the Library

The following are not transferred when backing up or restoring a library:

  • Date created for unsaved captures.
  • Captures saved by selecting File > Save As. You must manually copy saved images.
  1. Open Snagit Editor.
  2. Browse to:
    • Snagit 2018: Edit > Editor Preferences > Library tab > Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files.
    • Snagit 13: File > Editor Preferences > Library tab > Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files.
    • Snagit 12: File > Editor Options > Advanced tab > Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files.
  3. Click Backup.
  4. Enter a file name and location to save the backup, .snagarchive file.

Snagit saves a copy of the library.

Restore the Library

Restoring a library overwrites the captures in the current library. Merging two libraries is not supported at this time.

  1. Open Snagit Editor.
  2. Browse to: Open Snagit Editor settings and choose "Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files".
    • Snagit 2018: Edit > Editor Preferences > Library tab > Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files.
    • Snagit 13: File > Editor Preferences > Library tab > Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files.
    • Snagit 12: File > Editor Options > Advanced tab > Backup/Restore Automatically Stored Files.
  3. Click Restore.
  4. Browse to the .snagarchive file and click Open.
  5. Restart Snagit.
