Snagit Does Not Start with Windows

Problem

Snagit is automatically set to start Windows. However, it does not launch when logging in to Windows.

Solution

Make sure the preferences in Snagit are set to start Snagit automatically when logging into Windows.

Snagit 13 and Later

  1. Open Snagit Capture and select File > Capture Preferences.
  2. Select Run Snagit when Windows starts under General.

If you receive an error stating Administrator Privilege Required, even when running the program as an administrator, please try uninstalling all versions of Snagit, then reinstall Snagit 2019.

Snagit 2018 and Later

  1. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. Type the following and click OK: C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit #\ (Where # is the Snagit version you're using)
  3. Locate Snagit32.exe. (This will be SnagitCapture.exe for Snagit 2022 and later)

  4. Right-click the icon and select Properties > Compatibility.
  5. Click Change settings for all users.

  6. Deselect Run this program as an administrator.
  7. Repeat these steps for these files:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit #\SnagPriv.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit #\SnagitEditor.exe

Snagit 13 and 12

  1. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. Type the following and click OK: %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
  3. Right-click the Snagit icon and select Properties > Compatibility.
  4. Click Change settings for all users.

  5. Deselect Run this program as an administrator.
  6. Repeat these steps for these files:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit #\Snagit32.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit #\SnagPriv.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit #\SnagitEditor.exe
  1. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. Type the following and click OK: secpol.msc
  3. Select Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
  4. Locate User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode. Double-click and set to Disabled.
  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and choose Task Manager.
  2. Click Startup.
  3. Locate Snagit.
  4. Right-click Snagit and choose Enable.
