Snagit Error Application Does Not Open Because It Is Damaged or Incomplete

Problem

When launching Snagit (Mac) for the first time, this error message appears: You can’t open the application “Snagit.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete.

Solution

This error occurs by two possible scenarios:

Security & Privacy Settings

This error message is caused by changes to the Security & Privacy settings inside the operating system. To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

MacOS Ventura 13 or Newer

  1. Click System Settings
  2. Click Privacy & Security.
  3. In the window to the right, scroll down to the bottom of this list to the Security section
  4. Select App Store and identified developers.

 

MacOS Monterey 12 or older

  1. Click System Preferences.
  2. Click Security & Privacy.
  3. In the General tab, click the lock icon in the bottom left to allow for changes. You will be prompted for your password.
  4. Select App Store and identified developers.

You will now be able to open Snagit properly on your machine.

Incomplete Download

If the download did not complete before the package was ran, then that can also result in this error. Make sure the download is complete before running the installer. To re-download the software, please visit the downloads page.
