Snagit (Windows): Camera/Microphone Not Working on Windows 10

Problem

Windows 10 1803 (April 2018) and later introduce new privacy settings that may prevent applications from accessing the microphone and web camera. If a device is denied access, one of these error's may occur.

  • Snagit does not recognize that a microphone is connected.

  • Snagit shows the web camera as being on, but only the screen is recorded.

Solution

Make sure that the Windows privacy settings are set to allow Snagit to access the microphone and the web camera with the steps below.

Allow Access to the Microphone

  1. Click Start > Settings.

  2. Click Privacy.

  3. Click Microphone from the list on the left.
  4. Make sure that Microphone access for this device is on and Allow apps to access your microphone is set to On.Microphone.png

Allow Access to the Camera

  1. Click Start > Settings.

  3. Click Camera from the list on the left.
  4. Make sure that Camera access for this device is on and Allow apps to access your camera is set to On.CameraAllowApps.png
