An error message appears when stopping a recording or when attempting to open Camtasia: "The temporary directory used by Camtasia is invalid."
This error occurs if the temporary folder in Camtasia does not exist or if your account does not have proper read/write access to the folder.
To review which folder is being used as the temporary folder:
- Open Camtasia.
- Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Temporary Storage Folder.
- Review the current folder under Temporary Storage Folder. To switch the folder, click Browse and select a folder that has appropriate permissions.
Ensure that the folder exists and your account has read/write access to that folder. Also, make sure the folder is in a local location, and is not in a roamed or network location. If you are unsure, make a new folder in C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Camtasia 2019 , change the Temporary Storage Folder to this new folder and try Camtasia again.
