Solution
If you have Snagit 2024 and are experiencing this issue, please create a ticket with Technical Support by clicking on this Create a Ticket Link
Please follow the steps below to correct the problem.
Option 1: Check for Updates
- Open Snagit.
- From the file menu, select Help > Check for Updates.
- Download and install any available updates.
Option 2: Check Microphone Device
- Open the Snagit Capture Application
- Click on the Video Tab on the left hand side
- Click on the option arrow to the right of the Microphone Switch
- Verify the microphone showing in the dropdown is the intended microphone for the system
-
If the issue persists with this specific device, try an alternative device in the dropdown instead to see if the behavior is any different.
NOTE: Even if microphone is not intended for the video recording, this setting can still impact the success of a recording as Snagit tries to make contact with the recording device in the event it does not need to be turned on. This can effect the initializing of a recording even without audio.
Option 3: Change Audio Recording Method
- Exit Snagit and the Snagit Editor. Confirm that they are not running in Task Manager.
- Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
- Type the following and click OK: regedit
- Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\Features\snagit.
- Click the snagit folder.
- Right-click the AllowMfAudioCapture item on the right and select Modify.
- Change the Value data field from 1 to 0, and click OK.
- Close the Registry Editor, and open Snagit, and try a new recording.
