MacOS 11 Big Sur and the TechSmith System Audio Capture Component


When installing the System Audio Component the install cannot be authorized and fails on macOS 11 (Big Sur).

System Audio recording results in poor, distorted, or lost audio.


This is a known issue that is fixed in Snagit 2020.2.2, 2021.0.2, and later. From the menu bar, select Snagit > Check for Updates to install the latest version. If the problems continue, try the suggestions below:

Option 1: Authorize the System Audio Plugin

  1. After installing the System Audio Plugin if you see an error that it needs to be authorized please open the macOS System Preferences.
  2. Open Security & Privacy.
  3. Select General and click the Padlock. Then enter the computer password to make changes.
  4. Click Allow next to System software from developer "Rogue Amoeba Software, LLC" was blocked from loading.
  5. Try restarting Snagit and recording again.

Option 2: Reinstall the component

  1. Open Snagit.
  2. Select Snagit > Preferences > Capture.
  3. Click Uninstall Component.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Open Snagit
  6. Select Snagit > Preferences > Capture.
  7. Click Install Component.
  8. Open System Preferences.
  9. Click Security & Privacy.
  10. Select General.
  11. Click Allow at the bottom.
  12. Try a new recording in Snagit.

Option 3: Remove Old Plugin

  1. Quit Snagit
  2. Open a Finder window.
  3. Select Go > Go to folder from the menu bar.
  4. Type the following and click Go: Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL
  5. Delete the ACE.driver folder
  6. Restart the computer
  7. Install the system audio component from here.
