Many users ask if it’s possible to enter exact pixel values or XY coordinates for objects, shapes, or selection areas in Snagit Editor. This article explains what’s currently possible, available workarounds, and how to submit feature requests.
What’s Supported in Snagit Editor?
- Direct Entry of Pixel Values or Coordinates:
At this time, Snagit Editor does not support manually entering pixel values or XY coordinates for object placement or selection size. All resizing and positioning must be done visually using the mouse. - Selection Tool and Object Placement:
The Selection Tool and other objects (like shapes or arrows) can be moved and resized by dragging their edges or corners. There is no option to type in exact values for width, height, or position.

Capture a Fixed Region with Exact Size/Position:
If you need to capture a specific area of your screen with exact pixel dimensions or at a specific location, use the Snagit Capture window’s “Fixed Region” option:- Open the Capture window.
- Select the Image tab.
- In the Selection dropdown, choose “Region.”
- Click the Selection Properties button.
- Select “Fixed region.”
- Enter the desired Width and Height in pixels.
- (Optional) Enable “Set Position” and enter X and Y coordinates.
- Click Capture.
This method allows you to capture an area with precise size and position, but does not apply to objects or selections inside Snagit Editor. [techsmith.com]
- Visual Adjustment:
For objects and selections inside Snagit Editor, use the mouse to visually adjust size and placement as closely as possible. - Shape Tool for Precision:
