Problem
While another application is using the webcam. Snagit is failing to start a video capture and giving the error message "The selected camera is already in use. Exit the application that currently controls your camera
or connect a different camera and start the recording again."
Solution
This can happen with recording videos if your webcam is currently being used by applications such as Zoom, even if you are not intending to use Snagit to record your webcam. Snagit is unable to initialize with the device since it is in use by another application.
Option 1: Change Your Camera Settings to Allow Multiple Apps to Use at the Same Time
- Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Bluetooth & devices > Cameras.
- Click on the specific camera you are using.
- Click the Edit button next to Advanced camera options.
Toggle the Allow multiple apps to use camera at the same time switch to On, and click Apply
Option 2: Disable Snagit's Webcam Access
If you are not intending to use Snagit at all for captures involving webcam, you can disable the webcam entirely from the Snagit Capture Preferences.
- Open the Snagit Capture Application
- Navigate up to File > Capture Preferences > Capture Tab
- Uncheck the box for the setting Enable Camera
- Click OK
