While Snagit can work with a variety of microphones when recording audio during a screen recording, we highly recommend using a USB microphone for the best recording experience.
For optimal performance, we suggest using microphones that connect directly to a USB port on your computer. For example, a Blue Yeti USB microphone or similar plug-and-play USB devices are a great choice. These types of microphones provide more consistent audio quality and reliability when recording in Snagit. While it is recommended to use a USB-connected microphone for best quality, Snagit can often work with built-in microphones (in the cases of laptops), and/or the microphones built into webcams or cameras. However, quality may vary greatly depending on the microphone used, which is why we recommend using USB-connected microphones.
The following audio devices and configurations are not officially supported and may result in unexpected behavior:
- Wireless microphones
- Breakout boxes
- USB hubs or USB extension cables connected to a microphone
For best results, connect your microphone directly to your computer and confirm it is selected as the active input device in your system sound settings before starting a recording in Snagit. Note, too, that if you have multiple microphones on your computer (including those on webcams, integrated microphones, or other USB-connected devices), you may need to select the proper microphone in Snagit's capture window.
