Solution
There appears to be a false positive within McAfee security solutions. We have contacted McAfee to find a permanent solution, however, the best workaround at this time is to add the problematic files to the excluded list in McAfee.
If you are receiving the same error message but for different files, see here.
- Make sure you have your license key before uninstalling Snagit.
- Uninstall Snagit. To uninstall, see this article.
- Open McAfee.
- Select PC Security > Real-Time Scanning.
- Click Turn Off.
- Select When I restart my PC in the dropdown and click Turn Off.
- Reinstall Snagit from the downloads page.
- Open McAfee again and select PC Security > Real-Time Scanning.
- Click the Excluded Files dropdown.
- Click Add File. Add all of the following files:
- C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 2018\opencv_core300.dll
- C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 2018\opencv_core310.dll
- C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 2018\opencv_imgproc300.dll
- C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 2018\opencv_imgproc310.dll
- C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 2018\opencv_photo310.dll
- Restart computer and verify if Snagit continues to work. Once the machine is rebooted, the McAfee Real-Time Scanning will be re-enabled.
Error Returns Referencing Different Files
If the problem returns with an error refering to a different set of files, follow the additional steps below. It is important to add the problematic files before reinstalling Snagit.
- Add the files that were referenced in the error message to the excluded list in McAfee using the same steps described above.
- Make sure you have your license key before uninstalling Snagit. Then, Uninstall Snagit. To uninstall, see this article.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall Snagit from the downloads page.
