Snagit (Windows): Hotkey Problems and Questions

Problem

I need to change the global capture hotkey, or I am receiving an error about hotkeys when starting Snagit.

Solution

To change SnagIt’s global hotkeys....

Snagit 13

  1. Open the main Snagit capture window
  2. Click under the red button
  3. Type the hotkey you wish to use for your Global Capture Hotkey

Other global hotkeys can be adjusted by opening the main Snagit capture window and browsing to the file menu File > Capture Preferences > Hotkeys tab.

Snagit 12:

  1. Hover over the Snagit capture window
  2. Select the gear icon > Preferences > Hotkeys

How do I set a hotkey for one of my profiles/presets?

Snagit 13:

  1. Open the main Snagit capture window
  2. Expand Presets
  3. Click "Add Hotkey" on the desired preset
  4. Type the key combination you wish to use

Snagit 12:

  1. Open the Manage Profiles window
  2. Right click on a profile and choose Set Hotkey

When I start SnagIt, I get errors about hotkey conflicts. What's wrong?

When an application that uses hotkeys starts, it registers the hotkeys with the operating system. After that, no other application can use the same hotkeys. If another application has registered the same hotkeys that SnagIt uses before you start SnagIt, SnagIt will complain about a hotkey conflict.

Common programs that may hijack the Print Screen key from Snagit are Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox.  Please see this article for more information.

SnagIt's hotkeys can be user defined so that you can just choose another set of hotkeys. To configure the SnagIt hotkeys, select Tools Program Preferences > Hotkeys. You may also have to check in your profile list for any hotkeys that may be causing a conflict. The hotkey will show up to the right of your profile name, in green text. To change a hotkey for a profile, you can right-click on the profile and choose Set Hotkey.

When I start SnagIt there are Hotkey conflicts with all of the SnagIt Hotkeys?

This occurs if you have two copies of SnagIt starting in the Startup folder. The first copy of SnagIt starts and registers the hotkeys. Then the second copy starts and discovers that all of the hotkeys have already been registered and an error occurs for each hotkey.

Can I disable the Hotkeys?

Yes. Go to Tools Program Preferences > Hotkeys. Select None from the list for each Hotkey you want to disable.
