Why is TechSmith retiring Video Review, Knowmia Pro?

TechSmith has created a few content hosting platforms over the years. Video Review and Knowmia were somewhat specialized in their area of focus. Over time, our most popular platform, Screencast, has undergone massive improvements and has integrated core components from Knowmia and Video Review. TechSmith is committing our future development and support efforts to our improved Screencast service. We are confident Screencast will serve your content hosting needs today, and into the future. 

 

When will the Video Review and Knowmia Pro services end?

If you are a Video Review or Knowmia Pro customer, your service ends December 31, 2024. You will not be able to upload or access content on these platforms starting January 1, 2025.

To help address the inconvenience of this retirement decision, we are doing the following: 

  • If your currently active annual service expires in 2024, it will be automatically extended to the end of 2024 for free – to provide transition time. 
  • If your Annual subscription for Video Review or Knowmia Pro expires in 2025, you will receive a full refund for your purchase and will retain access to the service until December 31, 2024. Refunds will be issued in January 2025 and the purchaser will receive email confirmation when the refund is processed.
  • In addition, we are providing one year free of Screencast Pro as a potential alternative to evaluate for all currently active annual Video Review and Knowmia Pro subscriptions. You should have received an email with your unique redemption code. Redemption codes must be used by December 1, 2024.

 

What can I use instead of Video Review and Knowmia Pro?

We encourage Video Review and Knowmia Pro customers to consider the New Screencast as an alternative and are providing it free for the first year to help this assessment. We recognize that there is not feature parity with these platforms and that it may not meet everyone’s needs. To understand the difference in functionality with Screencast and your current service see below.   

 

Can you automatically migrate my Video Review or Knowmia Pro videos to Screencast?

Unfortunately, we are unable to automatically migrate Knowmia Pro and Video Review content to the New Screencast.  We are disappointed that we could not provide a seamless substitute to these products. You can upload your videos to Screencast following these steps

 

What features of my videos will be retained when re-uploaded to Screencast?

Captions, Interactive Hotspots, and Table of Contents will all be stored in the MP4 file, and will be shown once re-uploaded to Screencast.

How do I access my Screencast Pro account?

You will receive an email with a promo code link that you can use to redeem your Screencast Pro. After redemption then all you need to do is sign in to app.screencast.com and access your account.

 

How do I get my videos out of Video Review?

To export your Video Review videos, follow these steps:

  1. Select and play the video you wish to save.
  2. Right-click on the video while it is playing and select “Save video as”.

For users with more than 20 videos to export, follow these steps:

  2. We will send you zip files containing your media.
