Windows Can't Open This File When Downloading Snagit

Problem

This problem can occur when downloading Snagit using Internet Explorer or Edge.

Solution

Option 1: Re-download

Download the installer again using Firefox or Chrome. Snagit can be re-downloaded from our Alternate Downloads page.

Option 2: Rename the Download

Rename the file to end with ".exe" using the steps below.

Windows 10, 8

1. Open the Downloads folder.
2. Click View.
3. Select File name extensions.
   
4. Right-click the downloaded file and select Rename.
5. Rename the file to "snagit.exe".
   

Windows 7

1. Click Start and type "folder options" (without the quotes).
2. Click Folder Options from the search results.
   
3. Click View.
4. Deselect Hide extensions for known file types.
5. Click OK.
   
6. Right-click the downloaded file and select Rename.
7. Rename the file to "snagit.exe".
