Clear Activations for Snagit

If you are getting a message about too many Snagit installations, you can clear activations in one of these ways.


I do NOT have access to my old machine/computer

Clear activations for a single-user software key

This method will only work for single-user software keys for Snagit 2021–⁠2024.

  1. Visit manage.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account.
  2. Select the Keys tab.
  3. Find the Snagit software key that you want to deactivate and select Clear activations.
  4. Select Clear activation.

If your software key is not listed, select Save a key or Save another key, enter your key, and save it. Then you can clear the activations for your license.

The option to clear activations is NOT available if you have:

  • Active Snagit Business License Subscription (versions 2025 & later).

  • Multi-user Snagit key.

Clear activations for you Snagit Individual subscription

Option A. Visit manage.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account. On the Dashboard, next to Snagit Individual, select Clear activations. Then select Clear activation.

OR

Option B. Go to the Online store orders tab and next to Snagit Individual, select Clear activations. Then select Clear activation.

I do have access to my old machine

Deactivate on Windows

If you are running Snagit 2021 or later on Windows, you can uninstall Snagit to clear activations for your license, so it can be used again. See this support article.

Deactivate on Mac

If you are running Snagit 2021 or later on Mac, complete the following steps to clear activations for your license:

  1. Select Snagit > Manage License.
  2. Click Deactivate License.

Or, you can uninstall Snagit to deactivate the license, so it can be used again. See this support article.


Offline deactivation

If you are not connected to the internet, you can clear activations for your license offline. Select an option below based on your operating system.

Snagit 2021 or later (Windows): Clear activations offline
  1. Open the main Snagit Editor window.
  2. Select Help > Deactivate Offline.

  3. Click Generate Deactivation Certificate.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Click Copy to copy the generated text to the clipboard.
    • Or, click Save As to save a .txt file.
  5. Using a device that is connected to the internet, open the deactivation website.
  6. Paste the text from step 4 into the offline deactivation tool and click Deactivate.

Snagit 2021 or later (Mac): Clear activations offline 
  1. Open Snagit.
  2. Select Snagit > Manage License.
  3. Click Deactivate License. If you are online, this will deactivate the license.
  4. If Snagit is unable to connect to the activation service, click Offline Deactivation.

  5. In the dialog that opens:
    • Click Copy to copy the generated text to the clipboard.
    • Or, click Save As to save a .txt file.
  6. Using a device that is connected to the internet, open the deactivation website.
  7. Paste the text from step 5 into the offline deactivation tool and click Deactivate.
