How can I sign in to my TechSmith account? Do I have linked accounts?
You can sign in to your TechSmith account in several ways.
# | Sign-in method | Description |
---|---|---|
|
Direct sign-in |
Sign in by entering your TechSmith email and password. |
|
3rd-party sign-in (Google/Apple) |
Sign in using your social account: Google account or Apple ID. |
|
3rd-party sign-in (SSO) |
If your TechSmith account is associated with your organizational account, you may be redirected to a separate single sign-on (SSO) form where you need to enter your organizational email and password. |
How do linked accounts impact my TechSmith account?
If you have a linked Google, Apple, or SSO account, you may not be able to edit your TechSmith primary email or password. See the sections below for more details.
Primary email cannot be edited due to a 3rd-party sign-in
When trying to edit your primary email at myaccount.techsmith.com or manage.techsmith.com, you may see the following message: “Cannot be edited due to a 3rd-party sign-in.”
SSO sign-in label means that your TechSmith account is associated with your organizational account.
You cannot change your TechSmith email or password in our system. Please reach out to the IT support department of your organization.
As a rule, you should be able to update your primary email at myaccount.techsmith.com or manage.techsmith.com even if you have a linked Google account or Apple ID.
There is one exceptional case in which the “Cannot be edited due to a 3rd-party sign-in” message appears.
When signing in to your TechSmith account, you have always selected the option to sign in using your Google account or Apple ID. For technical reasons, before you can update your primary email, you first need to sign in to your TechSmith account directly.
Please follow these steps (they will not affect your Google account or Apple ID in any way):
- Initiate the TechSmith password reset in one of these ways:
- Sign out of your TechSmith account. In the sign-in form, enter your email and select Continue. Then select Forgot password.
- Or, at myaccount.techsmith.com or manage.techsmith.com, select Reset password.
or
- Go to your primary email inbox and click the link in the password reset email. Set a password.
If the password reset email does not appear in your inbox or spam folder, or if you lost access to your primary email address, please contact customer service.
- Visit myaccount.techsmith.com or manage.techsmith.com and sign in by entering your TechSmith email and the newly created password.
- You should now be able to update your primary email.
After you confirm the new primary email, your Google account or Apple ID will be unlinked automatically from your TechSmith account.
If I have a linked account, how do I change my password?
SSO sign-in label means that your TechSmith account is associated with your organizational account.
As a result, you cannot change your TechSmith email or password in our system. Please reach out to the IT support department of your organization.
There are no restrictions on updating your password – please visit myaccount.techsmith.com or manage.techsmith.com and use the Reset password option.
You will receive a password reset email at your primary email address.
If the password reset email does not appear in your inbox or spam folder, or if you lost access to your primary email address, please contact customer service.
What does unlinking an account do? When should I do it?
SSO sign-in label means that your TechSmith account is associated with your organizational account.
It is not possible to unlink your organizational (SSO) account from your TechSmith account. If you are experiencing any issues with any of these accounts, please reach out to the IT support department of your organization.
You are recommended to unlink your Google account or Apple ID from your TechSmith account in two cases:
- You no longer plan to sign in to your TechSmith account by using your Google account or Apple ID.
- Or, your TechSmith primary email differs from your Google account email or your Apple ID email, and as a result, you can see the following message at manage.techsmith.com.
After I unlink my Google account or Apple ID, can I still use it to sign in?
Yes, if you unlinked your Google account or Apple ID by mistake, you can still use it to sign in to your TechSmith account. After this, the accounts will become linked again.
Why cannot I unlink my Google account or Apple ID?
There is one exceptional case in which you cannot unlink your Google account or Apple ID: this is the only sign-in method that you have ever used.
For technical reasons, you need to use another sign-in method first.
For example, if you want to unlink your Google account, first sign in either directly, or using your Apple ID.
- You should now be able to unlink your Google account or Apple ID.
Please sign out first, and then select the corresponding option in the sign-in form.
Now that you have both Google account and Apple ID linked to your account, you should be able to unlink one of them from your TechSmith account.
If you used another sign-in method, but are still not able to unlink an account, please contact our customer support team.
