Problem
After sharing or saving a capture, all the edits and annotations are missing. The image is the same as what was originally captured.
Solution
This is an issue we have seen caused by outdated or unsupported video drivers or problems with the video drivers themselves. To resolve these changes, follow the steps below:
Option 1: Update Snagit
Make sure the latest version of Snagit is running. To update, follow the steps below:
- Open Snagit Capture.
- Select Help > Check for Updates.
Option 2: Update Windows
Installing the latest Windows updates will ensure that all dependencies and system files that Snagit requires are up to date.
Windows 10 & 11
- Press Windows.
- Select Settings > Update & Security.
- Click Check for Updates.
Windows 8
- Press Windows.
- Click the Down Icon.
- Click PC Settings.
- Select Update and Recovery.
- Install any updates that are available under the Windows Update.
Windows 7
- Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
- Type the following and click OK: control panel
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for Updates.
Option 3: Update Hardware Drivers
The best way to check for the latest drivers is to visit the computer manufacturer's website and search for the model computer.

Option 4: Change the Rendering Library Used in Snagit
- Close Snagit.
Tip: Close Snagit in System Tray
Make sure Snagit is closed by checking the system tray for the Snagit icon. If it shows, right-click the icon and select Exit Snagit.
- Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
- Type the following and click OK: %appdata%\techsmith\
- Open features.json in Notepad or your preferred text editor.
- Add the following lines to the file (if they are not already there). Double-check for spelling and syntax.

- Save the changes in the file.
- Reopen Snagit.
