Camtasia (Mac): Formats able to be imported to the timeline

Camtasia for Mac can import a number of file formats; essentially, anything that QuickTime can play.

Supported Formats

  • MOV (QuickTime movie), DV, MPEG-1
  • MP4
  • AIFF
  • MP3
  • WAV
  • AAC (m4a)
  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • TIFF and single-page PDF (multi-page PDF will not work properly)
  • Camtasia will also import caption files in SRT or SAMI formats.

General Info

For unsupported file formats, you can record the playback in a desktop player or web browser window with Camtasia Recorder. You can also convert many video formats to allow importing.

You can display file information using MediaInfo and generally do conversions with MPEGStreamclip, VLC, Handbrake, or Quicktime Pro to a format that Camtasia for Mac will read. We recommend QuickTime or mp4/h.264 (AVC) formats for importing. Audio files can be converted with iTunes or sound editors such as Audacity, Sound Studio or Amadeus Pro.
