Captured Video Displays a Shift or Enlargement on the Screen

Problem

When recording with Camtasia the screen shifts or enlarges the content on the screen.

Solution

Camtasia 2020 and later have improved the behavor in these situations. Select Help > Check for Updates in Camtasia to install the latest version.
This behavior is usually caused by high DPI settings on the machine. To change the DPI setting on the machine, follow the steps below:

Windows 10 1709 and Later

  1. Close out of Camtasia so that it is not running.
  2. Browse here on your computer: C:\Program Files\TechSmith\
  3. Open the folder for the version of Camtasia being used.
  4. Right-click the CamtasiaStudio.exe icon (green icon) and choose Properties > Compatibility.

  5. Click Change high DPI settings.

  6. Select Override high DPI scaling behavior, and choose System from the dropdown.

  7. Click OK > Apply.
  8. Restart Camtasia.

Windows 10 (1703 and Earlier)

  1. Right-click the Desktop screen and select Display Settings.
  2. Set the Scale and Layout to 150% or lower.

Windows 8

  1. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. Type the following and click OK: control panel
  3. Select Display.
  4. Select Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays.
  5. Set scale to 150% or lower.

Windows 7

  1. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. Type the following and click OK: control panel
  3. Select Display.
  4. Set scale to 150% or lower.
