Problem
Video captions are not appearing on the video when it's played back.
Solution
Closed captions can only be viewed when starting the video via the HTML file, and using the TechSmith Smart Player.
Closed captions are captions that can be turned on and off by the viewer by clicking a button on the video player (usually a CC button).
If closed captions are not needed, it is possible to burn the captions into the MP4 that is exported from Camtasia. Burned in captions will appear in the MP4 file, however they will not be able to be turned on and off.
Modern Exporter:
- Select Export > Local File (MP4/GIF/M4A)
- Choose MP4 (recommended) as the File type
- Expand Advanced Settings if it is not expanded already
- Ensure that Basic MP4 is the chosen preset
- In the Captions tab, ensure that Render video with open (always visible) captions is checked
- Click Export, then click Continue if prompted with the following dialogue box:
- Allow the file to export and the resulting file should have burned-in captions.
Legacy Exporter:
- Select Export > Local File > Custom production settings.
- Click Next.
- Choose MP4 - Smart Player (HTML 5).
- Click Next.
- On the Controller tab, select Produce with controller.
- On the Options tab, select Captions. For the Caption type dropdown choose Burned in captions.
- Click Next, and continue through the Production Wizard to export the a MP4 with burned in captions.
