Maintenance Transitioning to a Legacy License Subscription FAQ

Updated November 18, 2025:

When we transitioned active maintenance subscriptions to Legacy License Subscriptions, we guaranteed maintenance-based pricing for five years (through 2030). To make this clearer in our communications and FAQs, these subscriptions are now referred to as Legacy License Subscriptions.

With the Snagit 2025 & Camtasia 2025 release on February 12, 2025, TechSmith moved to a subscription license model. All active maintenance agreements were converted to a Legacy License Subscription (with maintenance based pricing) at this time.

What does this mean for me?

If you had active maintenance with the Snagit 2025 or Camtasia 2025 release, we've turned your maintenance into a Legacy License Subscription. This will not impact any previous perpetual version that you've owned. If you decide you no longer wish to renew your subscription, you'll no longer be able to access the 2025 or later versions.

With the Legacy License Subscription, your benefits stay the same! They include premium support (email, chat, and phone support) and the ability to add new users to your subscription while still renewing at the lower maintenance-based rate.

An additional benefit is that with the 2025 release, you'll be provided a new software key. That key will work to unlock all new versions of your product as long as you keep your subscription active. You'll no longer need to receive a new key each year!

Will my price change?

Customers with current and active maintenance (now Legacy License Subscriptions) will continue to receive maintenance-based pricing for annual renewals.

TechSmith is committed to continuing discounted renewal pricing for Legacy Subscriptions until at least 2030. Although the base price will increase annually, this is still a lower price point than our new Business License Subscription pricing.

New seats added to Legacy License Subscriptions will have a higher upfront cost, and after that the new total number of seats will renew at maintenance-based pricing.

How do I know if my subscription is active?

Visit manage.techsmith.com, sign in to your TechSmith account, and click on the Keys tab. The status of your subscription will be listed below the software key for each product.

Can I pay by PO instead of credit card?

Yes! Information on submitting a purchase order can be found here.

How can I tell what type of license I have?

If you purchased Snagit or Camtasia before February 12, 2025 and had active maintenance when Snagit 2025 & Camtasia 2025 were released, you will have a Legacy License Subscription with maintenance-based pricing.

If you purchased an auto-renewing maintenance agreement from TechSmith's online store, you should see a "Legacy License" label and a "Transitioned from maintenance" note under Subscriptions when visiting our Manage Portal.

If your purchase was not auto-renewing, you'll find your license information under the Keys tab as mentioned in the above section "How do I know if my subscription is active?"

What if I stop renewing?

If you choose not to renew your Legacy License Subscription, you'll lose access to version 2025 and later of the product, as these versions require a subscription to access.

You can cancel your subscription at any time. However, once it expires, you will lose access to subscription versions of the product, premium support, and Legacy price discounts.

You will always have access to previously purchased perpetual versions, with support available in accordance with our support policy. You can also start a new Business License Subscription or Individual Camtasia Plan Subscription at any time.
