Problem
When the play button is pressed, the timeline does not play. Dragging the playhead will go through the preview, however, the play button will not play the video. Pressing play turns the play button to a pause button, but the playhead does not move.
Solution
This can be caused by certain audio devices set as your default playback device, such as wireless or Bluetooth headsets. Disconnecting those audio devices and restarting Camtasia can allow the play button to work. If this works you may be able to reconnect the audio device without further issues.
Sometimes this issue is also caused by audio enhancements enabled on your set output device. Here's how you can disable the audio enhancements in Windows settings:
- Press the Windows key + I to open Windows 11 Settings.
- Tap or click System category.
- Select Sound in the right pane.
- Scroll down till you see More Sound settings, and click on it
- Sound settings will open.
- Choose the Playback tab
- Right-click on your default audio output device and choose properties
- In the properties panel, under advanced, de-select audio enhancements if it shows
- Click Apply and then re-open Camtasia and try again.
