When someone invites you to become a new owner of their multi-seat subscription, you receive an email notification.
In manage.techsmith.com > Direct orders, you can view a hint about a new invitation.
You can do one of the following:
- Accept the invitation and become the new subscription owner.
As the new owner, you will be able to fully manage all aspects of the subscription: purchases, cancelations, renewals, and granting product access (assigning product seats to end users). - Decline the invitation.
The subscription remains with the current subscription owner.

- Shipping address—Used to calculate taxes for your future multi-seat purchases. Also, at your shipping email address, you will receive notifications about all subscription updates.
- If the subscription has auto-renewal on and your primary payment method is purchase orders, on the Payment method tab, set a credit card as the primary payment method.
- On the Confirmation tab, click Accept invitation.
If an error occurs, see the Why can’t I accept ownership transfer? section in this article.

No, a subscription can only have one owner.
If someone invites you to become the new owner of a multi-subscription, and you accept the invitation, the previous owner will not be able to view or manage the subscription anymore.
It is not possible to accept the ownership transfer in the following cases.

You already have a multi-seat subscription for at least one of the products. For example, if you were invited to manage a multi-seat subscription for Audiate and Video Review, and you already have a multi-seat Audiate subscription, you cannot accept the invitation. Instead, you can:
The logic described in this section only applies to multi-seat subscriptions (direct orders). Let’s say you purchased a 1-seat Audiate subscription in the online store, and someone wants to transfer their multi-seat Audiate subscription to you. In this case, you can accept the invitation and become the new owner. The conflict about the transfer will only occur if you already purchased a multi-seat Audiate subscription of your own via our sales team, and someone is trying to transfer another multi-seat Audiate subscription to you. |
|
Current owner has an unpaid invoice associated with their multi-seat account. You can view the corresponding message: “Cannot transfer subscription: the current owner has unpaid invoice(s). Error code: 307”. Please wait for the current subscription owner to pay all of their invoices. |
|
Account of the current subscription owner is blocked. You can view the corresponding message: “Subscription cannot be transferred because the current owner is blocked. Error code: 255”. Please wait for the current subscription owner to unblock their multi-seat account. |
|
Your multi-seat account is canceled. Please contact Sales to re-activate your account. Or, provide a different email address to the current subscription owner. |
|
You are tax-exempt, and the subscription has auto-renewal on. You can view the corresponding message: “Cannot complete the transfer: subscription auto-renewal is activated. Please contact the current subscription owner. Error code: 302”. The current subscription owner needs to turn off auto-renewal for this subscription, and then resend an invitation. |
|
Subscription contains a product with unsupported settings. You can view the corresponding message: “Cannot update subscription: product or rate plan contains unsupported settings. Error code: 290”. You can accept the invitation after our team resolves the issue in our backstage system. For more information, contact Sales. |
As the person who was selected to become the new owner, in Direct orders > History, you can view the following events related to subscription transfer.
Event | Description |
---|---|
Ownership transfer accepted |
You accepted the invitation and became the new owner. |
Ownership transfer declined |
You declined the invitation, and the subscription remains with its current owner. |
No, ownership transfer is free of charge.
Sometimes, in Direct orders > History > Ownership transfer accepted, the order total may be larger than 0. This usually happens if your billing address has a different US state than the address of the previous owner. However, this amount is not charged to you or the previous owner. We’re currently working on a fix to always show 0 in the order total for ownership transfer.
The invitation remains active and ready for you to accept or decline until the current owner revokes the invitation.
