What is the difference between an update and an upgrade?
Upgrades go from version to version, for example, version 2019 to version 2020.
Updates are small changes within the same version, for example, version 2019.1.0 to 2019.2.0.

Wait a minute, what if I have a maintenance agreement?
Great news, if you have an active maintenance agreement, you receive upgrades and updates at no additional cost:
- If there is an upgrade to a new version while your maintenance agreement is active, you should receive your brand new software key right to your email.
- As for updates, they are periodically available right inside Snagit or Camtasia, and you can choose whether to install them or not. Checking for updates in your software.
Both upgrades and updates are covered under your maintenance agreement.

But what if I don’t have maintenance?
Great news still! All updates for the version that you purchased are included with Snagit and Camtasia perpetual licenses! You are entitled to every update within the version that you purchased.
On the other hand, upgrading from one version to another is a separate purchase:

While you have an active subscription for an individual license of Snagit or Camtasia, you're entitled to the latest version! Just check for upgrades in your product. Camtasia Essentials, Camtasia Create, and Camtasia Pro plans include a Camtasia individual license subscription.
