Camtasia for Windows Activation Messages

Problem

When unlocking Camtasia for Windows with your software key, you are presented with one of the following messages:

Installation Limit Reached

This means the software key has been used twice to activate Camtasia. A single user software key can be used on up to two machines for the same user. You do not have to take any action at this time, but if you wish to learn more about licensing activation, click Learn More in the message.

Installation Limit Exceeded

This means this software key has been used more than twice to activate Camtasia and is in violation of our EULA (End User License Agreement). A single user software key can only be used on up to two machines for the same user. Please click Learn More in the message to learn what steps should be taken.

No More Installations Available

This means this software key has been used more than twice to activate Camtasia and is in violation of our EULA (End User License Agreement). A single user software key can only be used on up to two machines for the same user. The software key can no longer be used to activate Camtasia without action. Please click Learn More in the message to learn what steps should be taken.

Invalid Key

This means this software key was not typed or pasted properly or is no longer a valid license key due to various reasons. Make sure the software key was entered correctly. If you are copying and pasting it the key, please try typing it in manually.

Key Doesn't Match Version

This means this software key does not match the version of Camtasia you are trying to activate. You need to obtain a software key for that version. You can sign in to your Techsmith Account to locate and download your purchased version of Camtasia or you can purchase an upgrade to our latest version.

Unable to Reach the Activation Service

This means you either do not have an internet connection to proceed with the activation or something is blocking the connection to our Activation service. If the computer is offline you need to complete the Offline Activation steps. Some reasons other than being offline we have seen cause this error are VPN's, Proxy Servers, and Firewalls. To activate while using a Proxy Server please see this article. For a VPN connection, if you can disconnect just to activate Camtasia you can connect again without issue after activation.

You Must Sign In or Enter a Software Key To Use Camtasia

To fix the problem please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure Camtasia is closed
  2. Open a run window by holding your Windows key + R key on your keyboard
  3. Copy and paste in the following: %programdata%\TechSmith\Camtasia Studio 20\
  4. Find and delete the Identity folder
  5. Find and delete the Reginfo.ini file
  6. Start Camtasia and see if you have the same issue

Activation Failed: Invalid Date/Time

This can happen when the system clock is set too far in the past. Verify the computer is set to sync with the internet for the date and time within the Windows Date & Time Settings.
