Find, Enter, or Recover Your Software Key (Snagit & Camtasia)

Whether you’ve just purchased Snagit or Camtasia, moved to a new computer, or can't seem to get your license to "stick," we’re here to help. Use this guide to quickly locate your key, activate your software, or troubleshoot activation errors.

1. Where to Find Your Software Key

Lost your key? Here are the most common ways to retrieve it:

• Your TechSmith Account: The fastest way to find your key is at manage.techsmith.com. Sign in and click the Keys tab to see all your registered products.
• Look Inside the Software: If you still have the software installed on your old computer, check the menu:
  • Snagit: Help About Snagit (Windows) or Snagit About Snagit (Mac).
  • Camtasia: Help About Camtasia (Windows) or Camtasia About Camtasia (Mac).
• Your Email Receipt: Search your inbox for "TechSmith" or "Software Key." Your original purchase receipt contains the key under the product name.

2. How to Enter Your Software Key

Once you have your key, follow these steps to unlock your software:

Snagit

1. Open Snagit.
2. Navigate to Help Enter Software Key (Windows) or Snagit Enter Software Key (Mac).
3. Paste your key and click Unlock/Activate.

Camtasia

1. Open Camtasia.
2. In the startup dialog, select Enter Software Key.
3. Alternatively, go to Help Enter Software Key within the editor.

3. Quick Troubleshooting & Errors

Is your key not working? Most issues can be resolved with these light triage steps:

• Version Mismatch: Software keys are version-specific. A Snagit 2022 key will not work in Snagit 2024. Ensure you have the correct version downloaded here.
• Activation Limit Reached: Standard licenses allow for two installations (e.g., a desktop and a laptop) for a single user. If you've reached your limit, you can clear old activations in your account.
• Typo Check: Avoid typing the key manually—copy and paste it. If typing, remember that the number 0 (Zero) and the letter O look similar but are not interchangeable.
