Snagit (Windows)
The Snagit Individual subscription does not require a software key. Sign in to activate your subscription.
- Open Snagit.
- Sign in to your TechSmith account using the email that you purchased the Snagit subscription with to activate the software.
If you do not have a TechSmith account, choose the “Forgot password" option. Using the email address you purchased the subscription with, you’ll go through the password reset workflow. - Your Snagit subscription is activated.

The free trial of Snagit is a fully functional 15-day trial.
To continue using Snagit after the trial ends, you will need to enter a software key (there will be no need to download and install Snagit again).
If the Trial Is Active
- Open Snagit.
- From the Snagit top menu, select Help > Enter Software Key.
- Snagit automatically grabs a single-user key saved in your TechSmith account.
If you have multiple keys, you’ll need to select one and click Continue.
- Snagit is unlocked and ready for use.
If you have a multi-user key, you will need to enter it manually and click Unlock Snagit.
If the Trial Expired
- Open Snagit.
- In the expired trial dialog, click Enter Software Key.
- Enter the software key and click Unlock Snagit.
If you receive a message saying that the key entered is not a valid software key, see this support article.
Don’t have a key yet? You can extend the trial one time for 15 more days. See this support article.
To keep using Snagit after your free trial, you will need to enter a software key.

- Open Snagit.
- In the trial dialog, click Sign In.
- Sign in to your TechSmith account.
- Snagit automatically grabs a single-user key saved in your TechSmith account.

- Snagit is unlocked and ready for use.
Option #2: Enter the Key Manually
Use this method if you have a multi-user key:
- Open Snagit.
- In the trial dialog, click Enter Software Key.
- Enter the software key and click Unlock Snagit.
If you receive a message saying that the key entered is not a valid software key, see this support article.

- Open Snagit.
- From the Snagit top menu, select Help > About Snagit.
- If you can view the type of license and the key that you used to activate it.
Otherwise, you will see the information about when your trial will expire.
To check which Snagit version you have installed, see this support article.
- If you are running the latest Snagit version, you do not need to take any action – just keep using your current key.
- If you are not running the current version, download the software and enter your key to get started.
