If you are getting a message about too many Camtasia installations, you can clear activations in one of these ways.
Perpetual License: Clear Activations Using Your TechSmith Account
- Visit manage.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account.
- Go to the Keys tab.
- Find the Camtasia software key that you want to deactivate and select Clear activations.
If your software key is not listed, select Save a key or Save another key, enter your key, and save it. Then you can clear the key activations.
The option to clear activations is not available if you have a multi-user Camtasia key.
Deactivate Key on Windows
If you are running Camtasia 2020 or later on Windows and are connected to the internet, you can uninstall Camtasia to deactivate the license, so it can be used again. See this support article.
Deactivate Key on Mac
If you are running Camtasia 2020 or later on Mac and are connected to the internet, complete the following steps to deactivate your license:
- Select Camtasia > Manage License.
- Click Deactivate License.

Deactivate Key Offline
If you are not connected to the internet, you can deactivate your key offline. Select an option below based on your operating system.
- Open the main Camtasia Editor window.
- Select Help > Deactivate Offline.
- Click Generate Deactivation Certificate.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Copy to copy the generated text to the clipboard.
- Or, click Save As to save a .txt file.
- Using a device that is connected to the internet, open the deactivation website.
- Paste the text from step 4 into the offline deactivation tool and click Deactivate.
The key is now available for use again. You can uninstall Camtasia, reinstall it on a new machine, and then activate it using your key.
- Open the main Camtasia Editor window.
- Select Camtasia > Manage License.
- Click Deactivate License. If you are online, this will deactivate the license.
- If Camtasia is unable to connect to the activation service, click Offline Deactivation.
- In the dialog that opens:
- Click Copy to copy the generated text to the clipboard.
- Or, click Save As to save a .txt file.
- Using a device that is connected to the internet, open the deactivation website.
- Paste the text from step 5 into the offline deactivation tool and click Deactivate.
The key is now available for use again. You can uninstall Camtasia, reinstall it on a new machine, and then activate it using your key.
Individual Subscription: Clear Activations Using Your TechSmith Account
To clear activations for your individual Camtasia subscription:
- Visit manage.techsmith.com and sign in to your TechSmith account.
- On the Dashboard, next to your Camtasia (Essentials, Create, or Pro) subscription, select Clear activations.
