I Need to Move My TechSmith Software to Another Computer

See the instructions below on how to move your software to another computer while keeping your resources (unsaved Snagit captures or custom Camtasia libraries).

Snagit (Windows)

  1. Open Snagit Editor on your old computer.
  2. Click Help > About Snagit and click Support Information.
  3. Scroll down a few lines until you locate Software key: [25 characters comprised of letters and numbers] and copy the key for activating Snagit on your new computer.
  4. Export your unsaved captures that you want to back up or import to the new computer.
  5. Uninstall Snagit from your computer.
  6. Visit the TechSmith's Download Center on your new computer and download the appropriate version of the installer.
  7. Locate and run the installation file. You will be prompted to enter your Software Key during the installation process.
  8. Import the backup of your captures (created in step 4) if needed.

Snagit (Mac)

Purchased/Downloaded From TechSmith

  1. Open Snagit Editor on your old computer.
  2. Click Snagit > About Snagit [Version Number]. The software key is shown as 25 characters comprised of letters and numbers.
  3. Copy the key for activating Snagit on your computer.
  4. Uninstall Snagit from your computer.
  5. Visit the TechSmith's Download Center on your new computer and download the appropriate version of the installer.
  6. Locate and run the installation file. You will be prompted to enter your Software Key during the installation process.
  7. Move your unsaved captures from the old computer to the new computer if needed.

Purchased/Downloaded From the App Store

  1. Open the App Store on the new computer.
  2. Log in with the same Apple ID that was used to originally purchase Snagit.
  3. Search for Snagit in the App Store. You should be able to download and install Snagit without having to purchase the software again.
  4. Move your unsaved captures from the old computer to the new computer if needed.

Camtasia (Windows)

  1. Open Camtasia Editor on your old computer.
  2. Click Help > Technical Support and scroll down a few lines until you locate RegistrationKey: [25 characters comprised of letters and numbers].
  3. Copy the key for activating Camtasia on your new computer.
  4. Export any custom libraries that you want to include on your new computer. Camtasia 2020 or later allows you to package and share Camtasia resources.
  5. Uninstall Camtasia from your computer.
  6. Visit the TechSmith's Download Center on your new computer and download the appropriate version of the installer.
  7. Locate and run the installation file. You will be prompted to enter your Software Key during the installation process.
